The Guardian, ‘Truss to lift fracking ban despite lack of progress on tremor risks.’
Should I be worried?
West Lothian has a long history of shale mining. Just look at the bings that still dot the countryside. Much made of the fact that many are now nature reserves, much not made of the fact that for longer than that period of time they were and are a scar on the countryside. The Five Sisters (don’t you just love the name, does it not make them sound harmless) can be seen for miles, an industrial slag heap rebranded as a historic monument and featuring on the council logo. A slag heap on a council logo, says it all. Doubt if there will be much fracking in the Tory heartlands or areas of outstanding beauty (i.e. Tory heartlands).
The Independent, ‘Anger at ‘obscene’ plan to axe banker bonus cap’. Let me think, another Truss policy ?
Controversy over BBC coverage of the royal procession up the Royal Mile, when presenters talked and laughed over John Knox kicking the Catholics out of Scotland. Why do I pay a licence? It’s just not value for money. I only ever watch the news and it’s increasingly poor.
King Charles is in Wales. The BBC gave us a short history of this, including the fact that there was a bombing campaign (obviously not a successful one) during his anointing. Is that the correct word? The BBC showed William working the crowds and a nun kissing his hand.
More twenty-four hour coverage of ‘the queue’.
Two women were sexually abused in ‘the queue’ (no sign of a certain royal).
Joining ‘the queue’ has been suspended for a few hours to let the ‘numbers go down’.
People in the queue telling us it’s such a life affirming experience (not for those poor women who were abused).
And so begins the long weekend.
Working out what to do on Monday. Get some pizza in and watch the funeral? Finish reading Stephen King’s IT (love it, so well written, so scary)? Take the dog for a long walk? Do some gardening? Cycling? Depends on the weather, but suspect the pizza option will win the day.
The waiting time in ‘the queue’ is now 24 hours long (just heard that on the news in the background at 5 o’clock).
Have an ASDA delivery between 7.30 and 8.30pm. Got an email to say there was one item they did have, the spicey pizza. Need to rethink Monday. I usually get a Sainsbury delivery but they have moved to 4 hour delivery slots. Too long if you are working from home and juggling meetings with deliveries.
Some of the stories the drivers tell you makes you wonder if it’s worth the job. Arriving ten minutes early for a delivery and being made to wait the ten minutes before you can drop things off. Some customers (women – they said that not me) expect you to deliver straight to their kitchens and even put the groceries on the shelves.
One DPD driver told me he had been punched during a delivery, and that it was a waste of time reporting it.
They all thought that from the end of the month deliveries would go wild, with Christmas approaching.
Christmas?
Well, there are Christmas cards in the shops.
