Day 25

30th September

What jumped out from the press today?

Nurses are leaving the NHS by the bucket load and one in four hospitals (or was that Hospitals Trusts) run a food bank to support their staff. They obviously will benefit from the 45% to 40% reduction in taxation for incredibly high wage earners. What a country.

Putin has claimed four areas of Ukraine as Russian. Images coming out of the Kremlin are unbelievable and chilling. He said that the Americans had been the first to use nuclear weapons and that they had set a precedent. The tally in front of the Kremlin looked like Nuremberg in the 1930s. Are we sleepwalking into a wider war, much as historians say they did in the 1930s?

The likelihood of nuclear war creeps ever closer I think and I can’t believe I am writing that.

Is it a sign of age when you have difficulty keeping up with a 3 inch house spider? It sure moved fast across the kitchen floor. I caught it and evicted it. Checked the web (boom, boom, Basil Brush used to say that and I think still does). They can run up to half a metre a second, are commonly seen out and about looking for a mate at this time of the year and get eaten by that mate (anyone seen The Truss husband or partner recently).

Popped into the office. Empty. Dark. Microsoft did a survey recently and 80% of managers said that they thought staff were winging it at home, 89% of staff said they had never worked harder. Who is more out of touch?

Heavy rain, high winds. Lots of bird noises in the back garden. Where are they. All sitting sheltering under the prickly rhubarb.

Social media in the news again over suicide of young girl called Molly. I think the companies need to be honest that either they can’t do anything to control online content (tech out of control) or they don’t want to because it would cost too much (it will drive our share prices down).

Dog wanted to go out for a walk – I get togged up – open door – step out into drive – lashing down – and he just sits in hallway looking up at me as if to say ‘ha, ha, fooled you’.

Lots of racist abuse for member of staff who did equalities broadcast. Vile stuff. How do you respond to that? Ignore it, I think not. I suspect most people don’t have a clue.

Tempted to buy a gnome and set it as bait in the front garden. Has my mental health suffered as a result of COVID. Not in the least, or at least I hope not, given that numbers are on the rise again.
