Day 38

13th   October

I see those great working class institutions – RSPB, National Trust and another one I can’t remember – are uniting in opposition to the government environmental policies.

More people sticking themselves to roads for some reason. We’re it Scotland they would be run into the ground, literally. Go on. I dare you.

Kamikaze Kwarteng featured in the news most of today saying that he will not change anything about his not-a-budget-mini-budget and that his future as chancellor is secure. He has the whiff of a politician who is on the way out.

Similarly, members of the cabinet saying now is not the time to change PM. Well, being biased, and relying on Chickie for their jobs, they would. None of them will ever say she should go.

The BBC reporter reminded us she is only 37 days into the job. I’ll check my days. I thought it was 38, even though it feels like a lifetime.

Johnston making money through speaking events in the States.

Watched Rangers Liverpool football match last night in local pub. Score was 7-1 to Liverpool. Quite busy, although everyone also seemed to be sitting in their mobile phones as well. Literally, everyone had a mobile phone out throughout the match. Three young guys in their twenties showing live video clips of one of their mates who was in the crowd at the match.

One lone guy in a Rangers top telling the screens what he thought of his fucking crap team, bastards, losers, fucking shite, should do better than that. He went quiet after the fifth Liverpool goal. I thought maybe he was having a heart attack.

Surfing competition at the week end, sea full of boarders (that’s what you call them). Looks lovely and blue out there. Is it as clean as it looks. You read so much about sewage pollution on the beaches.

A few runners out as well. Road race this Sunday.

One or two dog walkers putting their dogs on the sea wall and trying to convince them to run along it. It’s only a twenty foot drop the other side on to rocks and lashing waves. So quite safe really. Would they do the same with their children (maybe you would with other people’s children)?

Something happened in the MacDonalds this evening. There was a police car parked outside for a few hours (just goes to show the crime rate around here can’t be that high if they can idle around, or maybe it was the lure of a Big Mac). Policeman talking to people in street and in the restaurant and taking notes.

Taking notes on paper, that looked all very quaint and old fashioned.

Too many people around for them to be beating confessions out of witnesses.

Given MacDonald’s impact on the environment and the general health of the population, I think the police were interviewing the wrong people, i.e the customers (try the management).
