Day 42

17th  October

More news from Jeremy Hunt today and a major row back on almost every aspect of the not-a-budget-mini-budget.

Hunt currently sounds like the only grown up in the room.

Where is Truss?

The laugh of the day was Penny Mordant assuring the House of Commons that the PM was not under a table (hiding).

Political sit com or what.

More news on the police raid and it seems it was all a big mistake. Tom, who lives with his elderly mother, had plant lights in the kitchen to keep his begonias warm. Someone reported to the police that they thought he was growing cannabis.

I met him when I was walking the dog, or rather the dog was walking me.

‘They we’re all very nice’, he told me, ‘although I’ve never seen so many policemen in one place before. I suppose I should be lucky that they did not knock the front door down. I made some of them a tea and we had a laugh and agreed it had all been a big misunderstanding.’

I’m not sure he would have been so understanding had his mother popped her clogs as a result of the shock.

‘Mother was okay’, he said. ‘She keeps telling me, loudly, you know what she is like, to sue the bastards.’

More to the point, who made the telephone call?

Russian drones attacking Kiev. Five exploded and people were killed. Has Russia gone mad? A truly terrorist state. Can there be any return to whatever normal relations look like between the Russian government and everyone else?

And meanwhile Nippy sets out her case for independence. I thought she had done that already. This time it’s about the economy. So, an independent Scotland would keep the pound, apply to join the EU (border controls with England) and on and on.

I’m going to buy that Nippy cat-nip-doll from Amazon and hang it in the back garden.

And I’ll also keep the fire pit ready to burn the endless reams of SNP propaganda that will be pushed through my door.

They are now digging in the field opposite, getting ready for the next phase of the development.

Had a chat with (you guessed) a passing dog walker as I was clearing leaves from the front garden. She mentioned she had renewed her mortgage last month and the cost had gone up by two hundred pounds.

Another morning of no one in the office so I packed up and came home. Wonder what office life will look like as we move forward. No return to a pre pandemic existence.
